Traffic accident lawyers and the "Cycling Souls" campaign

The DGT's "Cycling Souls" campaign

In light of the 58 cyclists who lost their lives on the road and the 652 who were injured in 2015, the DGT (Spanish Directorate General of Traffic ) has launched a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of cyclists' road safety. This campaign, called "Cycling Souls," aims to reduce bicycle accidents and improve conditions for this group. It was presented by the Minister of the Interior, Juan Ignacio Zoido , with the help of a video created by the agency MRM/McCANN.

The video aims to help us understand that behind every death, there is a person with a name and surname, with a personal and family history—in short, a life. This is how Zoido, who has personally experienced the loss of a son in an accident, explained it. A ride on a driverless bicycle along the various roads where cyclists have lost their lives commemorates them all and seeks to raise awareness among the rest of us.

Tips for protecting cyclists on the road

Many tips and advice have been offered throughout this campaign to reduce cyclist fatalities on the road. Although these are lessons we should have learned when we obtained our driver's license, it's always worthwhile to refresh and reiterate them. For example, we are reminded to reduce our speed and maintain a minimum distance of one and a half meters when overtaking a cyclist .

New signage and awareness campaigns

But the campaign isn't just about messages; the Traffic Authority is also taking steps to improve signage and warn drivers of the presence of cyclists. Furthermore, the DGT (Spanish Directorate General of Traffic ) will launch public service announcements to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of respecting our cyclists, who number in the millions. Let's be mindful and, in the worst-case scenario, seek the services of traffic accident lawyers and get justice.
